Why ArchAdemia?

Syllabus

We open the course by explaining how to schedule areas when at the early stages of a project. You’ll learn how to add useful information to your appraisals and initial site studies to generate high level build costs, viability and overall space planning.
In this lesson we demonstrate how to add a colour scheme to your drawings that reflect what category of your space your highlighting. You’ll also learn how to add areas to each room and how that builds up your area schedule.
A layer of detail is added in this lesson where we work toward a detail room schedule for a project. You’ll also discover how to tell Revit to calculate grand totals so that you can tell your clients overall gross areas to help them assess the viability and construction value of their projects, quickly.
If you’re dealing with things such as minimum spatial standards and you want a snapshot of whether your project is hitting these targets, you can implement custom parameters in your schedules. This will create columns that demonstrate minimum required areas so you can keep a close eye and avoid mistake. We explain how to do just that in this lesson.
Although Revit has many wonderful tools and automations at its disposal, the level of calculation is limited. So, you may want to export to Excel to add advanced sums. The added benefit of exporting to Excel is that it improves ease of distribution and allows users to make their own modifications if they don’t use Revit.

Why are accurate area plans & schedules important?

Area schedules and plans aren’t just tedious charts or lists in the world of architecture; they’re pivotal pieces in the intricate puzzle of building design. First and foremost, they give a quick snapshot of potential build costs. Imagine a developer’s eyes scanning an architect’s proposal; it’s the accuracy of these schedules that helps them gauge its value. City planners too, lean on them, sizing up the volume of new spaces being added to our urban tapestry. And hey, ever thought about those minimum space standards? Well, accurate schedules ensure every design plays by the rules.

For the folks who’ll call these places home or set up their shops, these plans act as a friendly guide to visualize their new space. Then there’s the team—other consultants get a clear picture of the playing field, making collaboration smooth. And let’s not forget our utility buddies. They’ve got specs to meet, be it room for plant machinery or water tanks. So, in essence, every inch in an area schedule carries weight, ensuring everyone’s on the same page, from concept to construction.
