Lesson 1 – Intro & Starting a New Project (24:45). This lesson introduces absolute beginners to Autodesk Revit, focusing on creating a strong foundation for future projects. The course, designed in response to user feedback, starts with simpler, manageable projects. You’ll learn the importance of setting up project templates, configuring basic settings like units and wall types, and navigating Revit’s interface. By the end, you’ll be ready to start a new project with a solid understanding of essential tools and workflows. Lesson 2 – Modelling Walls, Floors & Setting Levels (28:13). In this lesson, you’ll dive into the practical aspects of creating the building’s envelope using Autodesk Revit. Starting with setting up walls and floors, you’ll learn how to accurately model the exterior and interior walls, ensuring they align perfectly with your project specifications. The lesson emphasizes efficient use of Revit’s tools, such as setting constraints, using the align tool, and understanding snap functions. By the end, you’ll have a solid understanding of creating a building’s structure, ready to advance to more detailed modelling in the next lesson.

Lesson 3 – Modelling the Roof, Ceilings & Remaining Shell (29:37). In this lesson, you’ll finalize the second floor and roof structure of your Revit project. You’ll learn how to create and adjust various roof types, ensuring proper alignment and slope with the walls. The lesson also covers adding internal walls and cutting openings to maintain architectural consistency. You’ll use tools to attach walls to roofs accurately, and you’ll model custom elements like parapet walls and front overhangs using the “Model in Place” tool. By the end of the lesson, the building’s external structure will be fully modelled and complete.

Lesson 4 – Stairs, Ramps & Railings (19:42). In lesson four, you’ll focus on creating and modifying stairs, ramps, and railings in Revit. The lesson begins by introducing ramps and their use in providing accessible, gradual elevation changes, particularly for wheelchair users. You’ll learn how to adjust ramp parameters like slope and length, based on building regulations. Moving on to stairs, the lesson covers the basics of stair creation, including setting dimensions, adjusting landings, and aligning stairs with floor plans. You’ll also explore customizing railings and creating bespoke glass balustrades for a modern finish. Finally, you’ll address roof overhangs and learn to make necessary openings, ensuring your architectural model maintains accuracy and functionality.

Lesson 5 – Doors, Windows & Curtain Walling (55:14). In lesson five, you’ll learn how to manage doors, windows, and curtain walls in Revit. The lesson covers inserting standard and custom doors, including double and garage doors. You’ll explore curtain walls, focusing on setting up grids and mullions for large glazing sections. The session also guides you through creating custom windows by building a new window family, managing elements like sills, frames, and glass. Lastly, it addresses the complex process of modelling dormers and resolving their intersections with the main roof. By the end, you’ll know how to integrate these elements into your Revit project effectively.

Lesson 6 – Model details, Furniture & Fittings (20:20). In lesson six, we focus on adding furniture and fixtures to your Revit project. The lesson begins with a brief detail on creating recessed panels in front and rear elevations by splitting walls and adjusting thickness. Then, it delves into placing furniture using Autodesk families, including sofas, tables, and gym equipment. You’ll learn how to download and load additional families from online resources, organize them efficiently, and use model-in-place elements for custom items like kitchen units. The lesson highlights the importance of building a robust library of assets for streamlined project management.

Lesson 7 – Lines, Regions, Reference Plans & Openings (15:33). In lesson seven, we shift focus from modelling to essential 2D tools in Revit. We explore the difference between model lines and detail lines, with model lines appearing in all views and detail lines being view-specific. We also cover how to create custom line styles for different purposes. The lesson explains using masking and filled regions to add hatching or hide parts of drawings, crucial for detailed sections. Additionally, we introduce reference planes for precise alignment and demonstrate creating wall openings, emphasizing their utility in architectural projects. These tools enhance your control over 2D detailing in Revit.

Lesson 8 – Modelling the site (27:50). In lesson eight, we focus on modelling a simple site in Revit. We start by creating a basic landform using the topo solid tool, allowing for a gentle slope from the house toward the back of the site. The lesson covers how to add detail to the site, such as a driveway and garden walls, by using tools like split lines and subdivisions. We also explore the cut geometry tool for precise modifications to the site. Finally, we add trees and fencing to enhance the realism of the model, emphasizing a model-based approach over 2D tools for better integration into project drawings.

Lesson 9 – Model Parameters (46:24). In Lesson 9, we delve into using Revit’s parameters to add detailed information to walls, doors, windows, and roofs. The lesson begins with a brief mention of grid lines but quickly focuses on creating and modifying wall types, demonstrating how changes can be applied across a project. We explore adding custom parameters to doors and windows, allowing for detailed scheduling and documentation. The lesson concludes with practical tips on building roofs, floors, and adding soffits and fascias to improve the model’s accuracy and detail.

Lesson 10 – Views (22:46). In Lesson 10, the focus is on mastering views and view templates in Revit. The lesson starts by explaining the organization of the project browser, highlighting the importance of views, legends, schedules, and sheets. It then demonstrates how to create and apply view templates to streamline the process of managing multiple views, such as construction and planning plans. The lesson also covers advanced customization, including setting project parameters and filters to differentiate wall types with color-coding. This lesson emphasizes the efficiency and power of view templates in managing complex projects.

Lesson 11 – Rooms & Areas (19:20). In Lesson 11, the focus shifts to creating and managing room tags and area plans in Revit, providing a break from the more technical content of previous lessons. You learn how to use room tags to label and define spaces, using room bounding and room separators to control the areas. The lesson also covers how to customize room tags, including renaming and formatting. Additionally, the lesson introduces area plans and scheduling, showing how to create and customize area plans, colour code different zones, and produce area schedules for clients. This content is key for accurate project documentation and client communication.

Lesson 12 – Door & Window Scheduling (35:52). In Lesson 12, you learn how to label and number doors and windows in a floor plan, then create schedules to organize this information. The lesson covers tagging doors and windows with consistent naming conventions. It also addresses handling doors within curtain walls and customizing tags. The process includes creating schedules by selecting fields like type, level, and fire rating, and adding door elevations to a legend. Finally, the lesson touches on including curtain wall components in schedules, ensuring that all relevant information is clearly documented for construction use.

Lesson 13 – Annotation & Basic Detailing (22:58). In Lesson 13, you’ll explore additional annotation tools and basic detailing techniques in Revit. The lesson starts with spot elevation, coordinate systems, and slope annotations, essential for accurate architectural planning. You’ll learn to create architectural sections, strip sections, and detailed callouts, which help in producing precise construction documents. The lesson also demonstrates how to manage detail views, adjust visibility settings, and use line styles for elements like damp-proof membranes. Emphasis is placed on the careful use of 2D elements in detailing, ensuring accuracy while avoiding potential errors in project updates.

Lesson 14 – Sheets (41:18). In Lesson 14, you dive into the details of creating and managing sheets in Revit. The lesson walks you through the process of setting up a custom title block, organizing sheet numbering, and adding essential project information like client names, project names, and revision details. You learn how to create wall type legends and other construction-related keys, ensuring your drawings are clear and comprehensive. The lesson also covers the importance of setting Project North versus True North for proper orientation on sheets. Lastly, you explore tips on creating portrait sheets and efficiently managing project revisions.

Lesson 15 – Exports (9:02). In Lesson 15, you’ll learn to efficiently export your Revit drawings using the Pro Sheets plugin. This tool simplifies the process, automatically recognizing portrait or landscape orientations and paper sizes, saving you hours of manual adjustments. You’ll be guided through installing Pro Sheets, setting up custom file naming, and exporting your work to PDF and DWG formats. This lesson ensures you’re ready to use Revit efficiently in a professional setting. You’ll also learn how to share your models with team members who may not use Revit. Further learning opportunities and support options are also provided.

Bonus Lesson 1 – Bespoke Window Openings (2:39). The bonus area allows us to dive into some of the finer details missed in earlier lessons and respond to community feedback. In our first session, you’ll learn how to modify the window cut within a wall, adjusting the shape to create elements like arched windows. This lesson shows how subtle tweaks can transform standard elements into beautiful architectural features, making your designs even more versatile.

Bonus Lesson 2 – Work Planes & Visibility within Families (5:43). In this lesson, we tackle a common query regarding visibility settings and work planes in Revit families. You’ll learn how to add model lines to windows to indicate openings, adjust visibility settings, and control how information is displayed across different views. The lesson also explores how to manage elements like dashed lines for better presentation in various views and scales. By mastering these techniques, you’ll gain more control over the details shown in your project, ensuring precision and clarity in your Revit families.

Bonus Lesson 3 – Graphic Override Masterclass (14:34). We explore the power of Revit’s graphic overrides, proving that with a bit of finesse, Revit can produce visually striking drawings & diagrams. Starting with selecting a colour palette using Adobe Colour, the lesson dives into how to apply and adjust graphic overrides for various elements like lines, background fills, and projection surfaces. You’ll also learn how to create clean, sharp images for presentations and export high-quality diagrams. This session demonstrates how to elevate Revit visuals through strategic colour choices, visibility settings, and customised view outputs.

Bonus Lesson 4 – Model In-Place (21:10). Here, we delve into Revit’s powerful “Model In-Place” tools, offering flexibility for creating custom elements that go beyond the usual modelling tool set. From simple extrusions to more advanced features like blends, sweeps, and voids, you’ll see how to craft complex shapes, tapered roofs, and even custom skirting boards. This tool allows for greater creativity, particularly for intricate projects like building conversions. Whether you’re designing architectural details or experimenting with form, this lesson equips you with versatile modelling techniques for your Revit toolkit.

Bonus Lesson 5 – In-Place Mass Modelling (5:54). Explore how to create complex, fluid forms using Revit’s mass modelling tools, inspired by the iconic designs of Zaha Hadid. Starting with basic work planes, you’ll learn to craft dynamic shapes with the spline tool, mimicking freeform architecture. The lesson then walks through turning mass forms into geometry, such as roofs, and how to refine them with material choices. By the end, you’ll understand how to manipulate mass forms for intricate architectural designs, all within Revit’s native tools, simplifying the path from concept to construction-ready models.

We’re the only architectural educator that teaches all aspects of what an architect goes through each day, through architecture courses, one-off lessons, podcasts and mentoring. We have to know and deal with a lot; concept design, technical design, graphics, construction, dealing with clients & consultants etc. Our platform gives insight into all of these areas and more through a range of mediums such as; online classes, one-to-one coaching, podcasts and downloadable resources.

We have two forms of membership, monthly and annual. Both can be cancelled at any time with no contractual obligations. Both include all course content that exists today and any future instalments, access to our community forum and monthly bonuses.
