Syllabus
Lesson 1 – Introduction & Setup (8:48). We start the course by explaining what’s in store, and the steps we’ll take to produce amazing renders together. We then jump into 3DS Max to get ourselves setup with the correct units, assigning Corona as our renderer and importing the SketchUp geometry we’ve downloaded from 3D warehouse and tidied up.
Lesson 2 – Lighting & Corona Sky (12:13). We dive straight into Corona by creating a Corona sun and loading a simple Corona sky into the environment slot, turning on the volumetric cloud system, too. We finish the lesson off with your first render, a simple white card shot to demonstrate the environment lighting.
Lesson 3 – Material basics (31:05). The third lesson introduces you to the huge, in-built, library of materials within both the Corona and Chaos Cosmos libraries. Here, you’ll learn how to deploy these standard materials and how to correctly map them onto your model for realistic results.
Lesson 4 – Chaos Cosmos & 3D assets (27:49). Building on the Chaos Cosmos library, you’ll learn how to roll out its 3D models to furnish your scene, in both the foreground and background. We refine the scene with bespoke assets later in the course, but we retain a lot of the assets laid out here as our backdrop, as the further away the assets are the less quality is needed.
Lesson 5 – Corona Cameras & HDRI Lighting (16:24). In lesson 5, we step it up by explaining the two methods for creating Corona cameras, the necessary settings for archviz shots, including the ultimate realism booster, depth of field. You’ll also learn how to drop in HDRI environment lighting, for enhanced realism and control.
Lesson 6 – Bespoke 3D Assets & Textures (40:48). We use two leading websites to source high-end 3D assets and textures to take the scene up a notch. But, before doing so we check in with some precedents to remind ourselves of the goal we’re trying to achieve and how interior designers decorate a space for maximum impact. You’ll start to see stunning results at the end of this lesson, for sure.
Lesson 7 – Finishing Touches (28:14). We use the penultimate lesson to touch on some fine-tuning techniques such as the light mix, adding interior artificial lights, a night shot and how to use a Corona map to mimic the look of bevelled edges in the harsh geometry that typically comes from SketchUp.
Lesson 8 – Final render setup & post-production (19:30). Although Chaos Corona boasts simplicity in its settings there’s still some key aspects you need to understand before sending your final renders off. You’ll learn the most efficient settings for maximum quality and speed, plus we explain how to properly use the denoiser to avoid blotchy renders but save on render times. We then round the course off with our tried and tested post-production techniques using Adobe Photoshop for the perfect visual, every time!
