Why ArchAdemia?

Syllabus

Get familiar with AutoCAD Architecture’s interface, menus, panels, and tools. Learn the key differences from base AutoCAD, focusing on the ribbon’s tabs like Home, Insert, Annotate, Render, View, and Manage. Navigate the viewport, customize your workspace, and utilize floating panels and palettes for efficient workflow. Understand the importance of visual styles for better graphical representation and transition from 2D linework to intelligent 3D objects. Begin the journey of recreating Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater house with this powerful toolset.

Explore the main 3D modelling tools and commands in AutoCAD Architecture. Understand the components required to model a building using the Build Panel. Learn the difference between drawing tools in base AutoCAD and using building elements like walls, doors, and windows in AutoCAD Architecture. Use the Tools Palette, select the correct AutoCAD profile, and practically apply creating essential building elements. Enhance your modelling skills as we move forward in designing complex architectural structures.

Learn to set up a new project in AutoCAD Architecture, organizing your model to utilize the toolset’s features fully. Create a new project folder and use the Project Navigator to establish the project’s structure, including levels and divisions. Create constructs for various building parts, such as floor plans and site models, and assign appropriate levels and divisions. This organized setup facilitates collaboration and efficient workflow management. Highlight the use of elements for repetitive objects within the project, similar to blocks in AutoCAD, preparing for modelling the building in the next lesson.

Model the course building using AutoCAD Architecture’s 3D tools. Import existing drawings via the XRef palette for accurate placement. Model walls, adjust widths, and create openings for windows and doors, ensuring wall heights align with floor levels. Adjust slab elevations for floors, modify stair properties, and add doors and windows with fine-tuned dimensions. Model balustrade walls with rounded ends and create custom curtain walls. By the end of this lesson, you’ll have a detailed ground floor model, setting the stage for further detailing and bringing the Fallingwater house to life with precision.

Learn to use a 3D building model to create views and generate drawings like plans, elevations, and sections, then add these to sheets for sharing and printing. Import drawings via the XRef palette for accurate placement and create intelligent views linked to your model. Manage view drawings using the Views tab in the Project Navigator. Generate plan drawings, elevations, and sections using AutoCAD’s tools. Add views to sheets via the Sheets tab, organizing drawing sheets by adding information and adjusting scale and placement. Ensure consistency and save time by linking drawings directly to your 3D model for professional, presentable results.

The project you'll be working on.

Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright

It’s not just about the software, but also taking you on a journey through an iconic piece of architecture. That’s what makes ArchAdemia unique to other course providers.

“In Mill Run, Pennsylvania in the Bear Run Nature Reserve where a stream flows at 1298 feet above sea level and suddenly breaks to fall at 30 feet, Frank Lloyd Wright designed an extraordinary house known as Fallingwater that redefined the relationship between man, architecture, and nature. The house was built as a weekend home for owners Mr. Edgar Kaufmann, his wife, and their son, whom he developed a friendship with through their son who was studying at Wright’s school, the Taliesin Fellowship. Wright’s admiration for Japanese architecture was important in his inspiration for this house, along with most of his work. Just like in Japanese architecture, Wright wanted to create harmony between man and nature, and his integration of the house with the waterfall was successful in doing so.”
