Syllabus
Lesson 1 – Introduction, interface, environment & effects (08:39). We open the course with a lesson on D5’s interface, the key tools to look out for and an introduction to the iconic building we’re using by Tadao Ando.
Lesson 2 – Importing the building & basic textures (15:09). D5 Render works with tons of 3d modelling programmes, but in this instance, we’re using SketchUp. Here, you’ll learn how to correctly import your project and quickly work it up with some in-built textures.
Lesson 3 – Cameras, lighting & weather (33:40). You can light your environment in two ways within D5; Geo & Sky and HDRIs, for which you’ll learn both in this lesson. We also cover the new cameras and the wonderful array of weather settings to breathe life into your scenes.
Lesson 4 – Populating the scene (31:53). There’s a ton of population tools at your disposal such as path and scatter. In this lesson you’ll learn to add context, vegetation and variation to the foreground and background of each shot within the project, making the most of D5 Render’s amazing asset library.
Lesson 5 – In-built & bespoke assets (01:03:19). Talking of D5’s asset library, at the half way point we deploy a range of assets around the project to populate each camera view, externally & internally. We then call on Megascans & 3D Sky to take the project to the next level.
Lesson 6 – Exterior shot refinement (01:19:23). With the broad strokes nailed down, we then take on the details of each exterior shot in this lesson. We double down on self-critique to make sure that we’re matching the reference material as closely as possible for realistic results.
Lesson 7 – Interior shot refinement (41:03). We then move inside the building to review the progress of the interior renders and adopt a ruthless mentality to comparing the render scene with the precedent images we’ve got to hand. Here, we extract key elements of the model to finalise textures, add artificial lighting and tweak camera settings for perfect results.
Lesson 8 – Final renders & post-production (35:36). With the scene set and all details added we move into the rendering phase, adding cinematic effects and final tweaks before setting to render. The lesson finishes in Adobe Photoshop exploring a range of post-production techniques to fine tune your still images.
Lesson 9 – Introduction to animations (11:25). D5 Render has incredibly quick rendering times, making it the perfect candidate for animations and short film production. In this lesson we introduce you to the creation of videos and animated objects within D5. If you want to take your animations to the next level, keep your eyes peeled for our Animation Masterclass.
Lesson 10 – Widgets, studio & bonus tips (15:03). We make sure nothing is missed in this complete guide by rounding the course off with a lesson on lesser-known tools in D5 Render and throw in a few bonus tips for good measure.
The project you'll be working on.
It’s not just about the software, but also taking you on a journey through an iconic piece of architecture. That’s what makes ArchAdemia unique to other course providers.
“This house in Mexico by Japanese architect Tadao Ando boasts a swimming pool that projects from a hillside and concrete walls that frame views of the Sierra Las Mitras mountains. The three-storey building centres around a double-height library that stretches diagonally through the centre of the plan. Fronted by glazing, this frames a pair of water-filled triangles at the centre of the house. The house is built into the hillside, which allowed the architect to create a volume where various horizontal and vertical concrete plains emerge from the landscape at different heights and positions.”
